Being Last By Serving Others

Yesterday we learned that once again God reveals how much he loves children (YOU!). Isn’t that great! He even spends time teaching others how much he loves you. Children have a special place in God’s heart! He believes that you know what it is like to serve others.

Make a list of some of the good things you have done for others. These are things that you have done to help out other people when you didn’t have to. You were deciding to be last instead of first. Remember this list and be thankful to God that he has given the ability to serve others and follow him, even when you might not have realized it.

Jesus Loves Children

Read Mark 9:36-37
Today in our scripture we read about Jesus loving and accepting children. They are children just like you. Adults are told to love and welcome you. God values you so much because you are so important to him. You are loved so much by the King! Doesn’t that excite you?
Make a thank you card for God and tell him how much you love him back.

Who Will Be Greatest?

Read Mark 9:33-35
Once, Jesus’ disciples argued over which disciple would be the greatest. Jesus responded to them by saying, “If anyone wants to be first, he must be the very last, and the servant of all.”

According to Jesus, you don’t become great by wanting to be first. You achieve it by your willingness to be last. You don’t try to get others to serve you. You serve them! Is this different than what you would have thought. If it is, talk to your parents and ask them questions. This is very important because God wants us to understand this.
How can you serve your friends today? Make a point to do something extra nice for them next time you play together.

The Last Will Be First

Read Mark 9:33-35
Have you ever gone to an amusement park hoping to hop on your favorite ride, only to find a long line of people waiting? Now imagine you’ve spotted some friends already in line. Would you try to cut ahead of others to shorten your wait?
In our passage today, Jesus told the disciples that those who were last would be first. What do you think this means? It means much more than waiting your turn in line. How do you think that you become last? One way is by serving others. Do something nice for your parents without being asked. Take the time to do this today.

God Will Help You

Read Exodus 4:10-17.

Can you believe that Moses still does not believe that he is able to do what God has planned for him? How annoying is Moses getting? Moses even asks God to send someone else altogether. This makes God angry. Wow! I would like to think that I would have acted differently, but would I have really? Do you believe you are able to do all the things God has planned for you?

God said that he would help Moses and Aaron by giving them the words to say. Talking to others about God sometimes is a very scary thing to do. God’s promise for you is the same as it was for Moses and Aaron. He will help by giving you the right words to say. Trust God today. Be brave and tell someone who doesn’t know about God how awesome he is today.

If you want to know the rest of the story read on in Exodus and see what God was able to do through someone with a low self-esteem you will be amazed.
